The Uniqueness of iStar

 

“iStar” Education proudly provides unique experience to students through unique training method. Compared with hundreds of similar abacus schools, we have the following to show our uniqueness:

 

1) Both hands and six fingers to play abacus

“iStar” adopts this unique method to maximize brain stimulation by using as many fingers as possible. “iStar” uses the most fingers in the field of abacus and mental arithmetic in the world. We encourage kids to always use both hands together to play abacus, which will help stimulate the right side of the brain (especially for the right-handed people), and assist kids to balance their brain power and strengthen the function of both their left and right brain.

 

2) No any formulae required

Most of abacus schools require students to recite at least 34 formulae to do calculations. The majority of children cannot handle the formulae well and feel more pressured. Students (particularly to the 4 – 6 years old kids) could easily forget it, even after reciting the formulae, resulting in a grievous sense of frustration. On the contrary, our method requires no any formulae. The method is based on a current world decimal numeral system. So, it is much easier to learn for young children, and even the kids at 2.5 years old are qualified after passing an initial evaluation.

 

3) Focus on brain calculation; grasp the nature of numeral calculation

We always encourage students to use what they have learned at our school in their daily life or school math. From the very beginning of study, students are required to do mental calculation, which is the most applicable in the everyday life of students. Our teaching method has grasped the nature of calculation and speed math. All calculations are built on “friend” numbers. Staffs at “iStar” are required for continual education in mental calculation.

 

4) Use patented way to teach

To help the students without any number sense, we’ve adopted patented methods to teach, which allows young students to easily understand complex abstract math concepts.

 

5) Match Ontario Mathematics Curriculum to make math simple and easy

To adapt to the Ontario curriculum, we have applied a customized systematic method with a combination of both the eastern and western methods to teach our materials. In class, students are required to follow the rules and complete the class work. In the mean time, we use various fun yet thought-provoking games and activities while teaching – “to learn brain abacus in entertainment, to develop brain potentials through games”. We also match our teaching contents with Ontario Mathematics Curriculum to help students learn school math easily in order to build up confidence, and further develop advanced skills in school.

 

6) Short completion time period

The entire training process is designed for completion within 2.5 years, which is the shortest time period among all abacus schools. After 2.5 years of our training, your child will be able to do the following:

 

- Complete 1-6 digits addition and subtraction questions using their brain.

- Complete 2-4 digits by 2-4 digits multiplication questions using their brain.

- Complete 1-8 digits by 1-5 digits division questions using their brain.

- Comlete exponentials, fractions, decimals, BEDMAS, and general number sense questions pertaining to the grade 9 Ontario   math curriculum using their brain.
